- quote
Mama Kannon Temple, or Mama Chichi Kannon,
is known as the "Breast Temple" and one of the 33 Kannon Shrines of Owari, being built in 1492 with the formal name of Ryuon-Ji. Legend says it was a regular shrine until 1665, when a woman who was unable to breast feed brought her baby and prayed at the temple, miraculously starting to lactate.

Neighbors of the woman appearing in the legend were concerned that the milk she produced lacked in nutrients for her child, given that she was poor and malnourished. They gave her rice in order to help, but as she was a devout person, she offered the rice to the deity at the temple instead of consuming herself. It was then that she started to lactate plenty and richly. From that moment on, rumors spread and women from all places started to come and pray for safe birth giving, abundant lactation, healthy babies, and etc. Of course, some of the ladies would also pray for matters unrelated to maternity, like asking for changing the physical appearance of their bosoms.

On a less amusing note, the temple is the 24th Peregrination Temple (Fudasho) among the Kannon Temples of Owari and was originally built at the Mt. Komaki, allegedly being moved to its current location by orders of Oda Nobunaga. The deity of the temple is Senju Kannon Bosatsu, also known as the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, often depicted in statues with tens of arms to symbolize the infinite hands, and/or multiple faces meaning the eleven faces, both gifts from Amithaba.

The Sanmon gate at Mama Kannon
is said to be a structure entirely moved from Kenchuji Temple, the famous Memorial Temple of the Owari Tokugawa Clan, located in the Higashi-Ward of Nagoya-City.

- quote
One night sometime in the Enryaku Period (about 1,200 years ago) the priest Kobo Daishi had secluded himself in this mountain area and was carving a stone (ishi) statue of the Kannon (Goddess of Mercy).
However he was forced to abandon his effort upon hearing a rooster crow to announce the daybreak. He left the mountain and the statue's right hand remained unfinished. This site is now designated as a special holy site along the Hokuriku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and, on account of the statue's missing limb, is said to have healing powers for limb disabilities.
The path to the mountainside away from the Main Hall leads to a spring called'Kannon Reisui'and, in March 2006, the spring's water 'Fukui no Oishii Mizu' (Fukui's Delicious Water) was recognised as among the very best from Fukui.

Muro Fudo

3612 Mimorocho, Isesaki, Gunma

In the year 1371, the lord of the castle 茂呂勘解由左衛門尉 Muro Kankaiyoshi Saemonnojo hat the temple 香華院 Kogei-In erected in the castle compound.
A statue of Fudo Myo-O carved by Kobo Daishi was enshrined.
From the temple 鶏足寺 Keisoku-Ji the Zen priest 道照禅師 Dosho Zenji was called to lead the rituals.
Later the temple was named Taima-Ji.

Isesaki, there was a bridge (now 光円橋 Koenbashi), where a monster passed by every night and shocked the villagers. Mitsunari drove the monster away and the name of the temple was changed.
The crest of the temple is the same as that of Mitsunari.

In the year 1663, many buildings were lost during a fire, but reconstructed in 1670.
The large Fudo Hall was build in 1677.
The main statue is 大日如来 Dainichi Nyorai.
Koyasu Kannon is also venerated.

The roof of the Fudo Hall was repaired in 1988.

The main gate of the temple has 扁額 a framed inscription, 「不動院」 Fudo-In.

Umezawa Fudo
umezawa - lit. swamp of plum trees

801 / Tochigi city, Umezawa town 801

The temple is surrounded by plum trees.

It was founded in 1202 by 佐野安房守実綱 Sano Sanetsuna, Lord of 唐沢城主 Karasawa castle.
Sanetsuna was a retainer of 源頼朝 Minamoto no Yoritomo. He built this temple in honor of Yoritomo.

- quote

Karasawa Castle (唐沢城, Karasawa-jō) or
Karasawayama Castle (唐沢山城, Karasawayama-jō)
was originally built in 927 by Fujiwara no Hidesato, and Renovated in 1491 by Sano Moritsuna, of the Sano clan. It was a mountain-top castle, and one of the main castles of the Kanto area, Honshu, Japan. It is sited on the border of Kanto plain and northern mountain areas. and sat next to Sano, the corresponding castle town during the Edo period.
Over a period of time,
the Sano clan expanded their control over the area, and gradually built up the castle. At its peak, it was a substantial castle, commanding a mountaintop position. During the 16th century, the powerful Warlord, Kenshin Uesugi (1530–1578), lord of Kasugayama Castle moved into the area, and took over landholdings of some of the smaller clans. However, in so doing, he had to travel quite far, and was also being attacked by the Hojo clan. The castle saw most conflict in this period. Under the leadership of Sano Masatsuna (1529–1574), the castle withstood attacks by Kenshin Uesugi. At one point, Masatsuna allied with Kenshin, but eventually he broke free, regaining independence for the castle and for the Sano clan. The Uesugi clan attacked the castle 10 times during the Sengoku Period - a large amount of castle attacks, in a short time period.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi
conducted a campaign against the Hojo clan, and the Sano supported Hideyoshi. At the time, the Sano were on good terms with the Hojo, but Hideyoshi removed them from the castle. At the battle of Sekigahara the Sano clan sided with Tokugawa.
The story goes
that after one of the early Fires in Edo, the Sano clan could see the fire down in the city from their mountaintop. The clan sent their condolences to Edo for the unfortunate event. Allegedly, the Emperor was unimpressed that the Sano clan castle look down on Edo, and told them they would have to remove it. Whatever the reason, the clan rebuilt their castle lower down the hill, in a nearby but different position,
and this new castle was named Sano Castle.

Kongo Fudo

2239 / Tochigi, Kanuma city, Kusagyu

The temple was founded in 757 by 勝道上人 Saint Shodo Shonin.
Priest Saint Shodo Shonin (735 - 817) practised Shugendo rituals in Nikko and helped deepen the belief in the Tengu, who would protect people from misfortune and extinguish fires in the region.
Saint Shodo Shonin .

Tage Fudo

563 / Tochigi, Utsunomiya city, Tage town

- quote
The 18th of the 36 Fudo temples in Kita-Kanto, this temple served as the favored place of worship of the Utsunomiya clan for generations.
It is known as a place where worshippers can pray to Fudo for safety from fire and success in business.
The rich nature of the mountains remains unspoiled, and in early summer, the path leading through the mountains up to Tagesan Fudoson is flanked by blooming hydrangeas.
Tagesan Fudoson's wooden statue of a seated Fudo was crafted using the technique of yosegi, a type of traditional Japanese marquetry, and is believed to date back to the late Heian Period (794-1185).
The taro skewers sold at the restaurants outside the temple gate are a local specialty.
