The Yakushi statue is 薬師如来座像 a seated Yakushi Nyorai.
It is a secret statue and shown only on
the second Sunday in January and on April 08.

The temple was founded in 806 by the monk Saicho, founder of the Tendai Sect of Buddhism.
The temple's principle object of worship, a seated statue of the Yakushi Nyorai Buddha, is said to have been carved by Saicho and is a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan.
From late March to early April the weeping cherry trees in front of the main hall come into bloom.
