寛文の頃、結婚の約束をしたにもかかわらず、相手が他の女と結婚して、捨てられた女が、薬師像の眼・耳・胸に釘を打ち呪った。すると、男の妻に女の生霊が憑き悩ませた。山伏が多数集まって祈り加持をしても験は無かった。僧が十念を授けると離れた。

Kurayoshi 倉吉市桜
大日寺は寺伝に承和8年（841）
慈覚大師円仁の開基、永延2年（988）恵心僧都の再興とされる。本像は、桧又は榧の一木造りで、像高152.0cm。
肉身部は黄土彩、着身部はベンガラ彩の朱衣金体を呈し、両膝に見られる同心円状の衣文にも特徴がある。丸みを帯びた大らかな作風で、平安中期～後期の造像とみられる。
一木造りの、県内に残る数少ない平安時代の仏像として、価値が高い。

子供の時に薬師寺の裏山で古い壷を見つけた。中には一匹の蛇がいて、底には漆のようなものがたまっていた。それらを持って帰り、壷は和尚さんに上げて、蛇は隣の爺さんにあげた。それから爺さんの家は目に見えて暮らしが良くなった。噂では蛇のお告げがあり、その蛇を弁天さんにお上げしたという。

金屋の千賊と言われて恐れられている山賊がいた。時の中納言藤原行平卿が征討に向かったが、数年に及んでも滅ぼすことができない。行平は征討使の権を取り上げられた。行平は責を感じ、天地神明に誓い薬師如来１４体を刻み、犬山神山下の川中に投じ、ひたすら千賊の退治を願った。行平は神護により千賊を退治し、帰京した。ある日囲碁をしていると、「中納言」と呼ぶものがいる。見ると薬師如来の１体であった。

A man always told lies and got his riches by cheating other people, even killing a blind man. One day out of his storage house with the bales of rice he had aquired there came a statue of Yakushi Nyorai.
So he finally changed his mind, cut his hair and became a monk, venerating the statue until he died.

This paining is from the legend of the tempel Tofuku-Ji 東福寺:
Once upon a time
they found a statue of Yakushi at the beach and stuffed into a straw bale to carry it to the temple, hence the name "Straw Yakushi".
The top part shows some temples and shrines, below are farmers, fishermen and other people busy with the statue.
